CHULA VISTA, Calif. (March 19, 2015) – Wayne Huber and Michael Bohrnsen, DC were honored at the USA Volleyball Beach Department’s fourth-annual Sports Medical Summit on Feb. 27-March 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
The two-and-a-half-day event brought together medical providers from all over the country and various disciplines including certified athletic trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists and medical doctors.
Each of the practitioners involved in the summit provide care to USAV Beach National Teams Program athletes, both domestically and during International competitions. The purpose of the summit is to create opportunities for the medical staff to continually learn and improve their skills in order to provide world class care to the beach athletes.
Huber and Bohrnsen received awards for their outstanding care and commitment to the program. Huber was honored for his three years of service as the Beach National Program’s contracted Director of Sports Medicine. He will turn over that role to Aimee Miyazawa who was recently hired as the full-time Certified Athletic Trainer and will assume the director duties.
“We can’t thank Wayne enough for his contributions to the Beach National Program,” said Sean Scott, USAV Manager of Beach National Teams. “Wayne has played an essential role in building and improving our sports medicine team and giving direction to the program.”
Bohrnsen received the inaugural USAV Beach “Medical Provider of the Year” award. Competition for the award was strong, however Bohrnsen earned the award with his commitment to the program and outstanding care to the athletes.
